Vintage 1953 Illinois License Plate Pair marked Front & Rear / ruby red on buff

Description

Up for sale is a mating pair of 1953 Illinois truck license plates numbered B159451.  The ruby red text on buff plates measure 12" x 5-3/4".  (Wiki defines buff as a pale orange - brown color.)  The words FRONT and REAR were placed on truck, bus, dealer, farm and taxi license plates to prevent (mostly farmers) from buying 1 pair of plates and using them on 2 separate vehicles.  Both 1953 plates have wear, aging road grime, bolt rubbing, creases, and rust.  The front plate has metal missing on the lower left corner.  Regardless of defects I still consider these plates that have been on a truck to be in collectible used condition because they include both front and rear marked plates together.  It is getting increasingly hard-to-find these front/rear marked Illinois plates for 1953 trucks and they display best as a pair.  Look at the pictures and judge for yourself.  The plates have an interesting story as to why Illinois marked this segment of plates front and rear with farm trucks playing a large part in this story.
