license plate pair. 1963. 12 x 6 inches; yellow legend on green background. completely straight and flat with excellent original paint as seen in the photos.  fresh out of the barn!  these Illinois plates are very tough to find in good condition, as they are so paper-thin.  original mailing envelope and separator included: looks like the plates received a year of service and were put back in the original packaging.
John Deere colors, made with actual John Deere paint.  (the JD folks reformulated their outdoor-equipment paint so they sold the last of the old stuff to the highest bidder: the state of Illinois, for next year's plates.)

a note about Illinois plates from 1951 to 1978: they are made of the thinnest steel of any regular issue US plate series.  they are next to impossible to find without prison warp (the ripple effect that's the result of slightly misaligned dies, not any wear or damage after leaving the factory).  it is recommended that if one runs the plates on a classic vehicle, that they be bolted to a firm piece of wood.
