    . 12 x 6 inches; white legend on orange background. the plates lie completely straight and flat with excellent original paint.  very good unrestored quality; fresh out of the barn.  excellent serial number ending in "64"!

    a note about Illinois plates from 1961 to 1978: they are made of the thinnest steel of any regular issue US plate series.  they are next to impossible to find without prison warp (the ripple effect that's the result of slightly misaligned dies, not any wear or damage after leaving the factory).  it is recommended that if one runs the plates on a classic vehicle, that they be bolted to a firm piece of wood.
