license plate pair. 1956. completely straight and flat with excellent original paint as seen in the photos. fresh out of the barn!  one cut-away mounting hole.  these Illinois plates are very tough to find without a single bend or ding, as they are so paper-thin.

a note about Illinois plates from 1951 to 1978: they are made of the thinnest steel of any regular issue US plate series. they are next to impossible to find without prison warp (the ripple effect that's the result of slightly misaligned dies, not any wear or damage after leaving the factory). it is recommended that if one runs the plates on a classic vehicle, that they be bolted to a firm piece of wood.
